Looks like Ashe county to me, maybe Mitchell.
South facing slope?
It's all fun and games until somebody gets an eye put out. 😎
Use the SchwartZ, Luke...
"Do not look into laser with remaining eye"...
Very cool photos

Nope it's actually North facing.
I take it the photo actually captured the infra-red light being sent from the edm? It looks like the instrument is facing where the camera is but the light is going off to the left (instrument's right). What is the pink, is that flagging?

Light Saber brand machetes leaning against a tree. Elementary since most colonial land surveyors are Jedis. 😉

Actually it's just the laser from the instrument when set to reflectorless mode. We usually turn it on when we are staking out a point to help stay on line. It was misting when they where out, so it's just the laser reflection in relationship to the angle in which he was standing. The pink is flagging.
That's a cool photo.

Yeah, its in the Southern Part of the County near Deep Gap.
That has got to be western North Carolina. That mountain laurel doesn't just grow anywhere...Cool Pic!!!
I wanta do that.
As for the pink ribbon - sometimes you have to make sure you can see back to the instrument, especially if you went all the way down a ravine and up the other side in woods like that.
I love the Leica laser pointer and guide lights when working underground. Too bad I cant get a picture in the dark!
