Just finished a 12 hour Saturday. (That's how it is right now.)

Started off a little gray:

But ended up t-shirt weather:

Gotta shoot highway centerline at 4 a.m.- don't stay up waiting for pictures of that.

Being able to drive close to where you need to work, great. Having a leica gs14, 2m quick lock, bipods, great.
Not having to deal with 2 feet of snow on the ground............PRICELESS!

I'm just a little jealous.......actually really jealous......need some help?

Ill be in san antonio in a couple weeks for a wedding. I need to see grass and sunshine again.

OK, here goes.

What are those funny little concrete looking obelisks, around your base station? What are you doing with a base station, on a BI Pod? Aren't you worried it could shift, in the breeze, or even fall over?

I have used bi-pods b-4, as a base, BUT, I actually set an extra rebar at an angle, and hooked a ratchet strap to it, to make sure it did not shift.

Any way, it looks like you had a beautiful day in the woods!

🙂

My guys in Oklahoma used a bipod for the base routinely. I didn't like it but it was okay with the company owner and boss, so it was a losing battle.

It looks a lot like Oklahoma. From about this time of year until the 1st of June or so can be pretty nice.

randy: indeed. in the shadow of the old volcano. actually, i don't think it can even cast much of a shadow for the last few eons, but that ballpark anyways.

nate: not sure what the bollards are there for, my guess would be a donut/dumping disincentive device, or else there's some utility infrastructure in the ground there that doesn't take a load well. in any event, good place for a control point. and my base flops between a station a couple miles to the northwest and another about 6 miles east.

was back for round two of control calibration to a pretty big design project we're taking over on due to some unknown unpleasantness between the client and their former firm. i've gotta tie in 750 acres of topo to their datum. which has been gnat's arse, save for the unexplained Z delta of 0.61'. i mean, the geoid shift probably accounts for a third of that, where the rest comes from i'm not sure, and the previous firm isn't being overly generous with communication (which i guess i can understand). anyways, checked into 7 different monuments/rods, 3 sets of 5 minute observation pairs spread over a week (mon/wed/sat), and am getting Z residuals of .60-.62 on every single one. so i'm not sure what the exact basis of their elevations are, but i'm confident i can adjust accordingly.
