I lost my dimple making machine and I have to set this monument.
I don't know how I can locate it after it's set without a dimple.
Could you send me your dimpler?

I could send you mine, but since I've been retired and what I have left over in equipment is in various places in some storage sheds, I probably can't find it. But! if you really need one I could make a diligent search for it.

Leonard,
That was a tongue in cheek joke...unless Mighty has forgot a few things I've tried to teach him over the years. :excruciating:

Thanks Charles, but, alas it's too late I got the monument set over lunch. There was a closed gate that was more trouble than it was worth so a 1/2 mile walk in the snow to set the 1/4 corner.

Snow had stopped as I was leaving, huffing up over the high ridge back to the truck:

Not long till winter-I'm guessing

Paul:

I meant to put a smiley face in my post, but due to old age, I forgot.

Dang... is that a 1/16th corner or

[sarcasm]a beach umbrella for a chipmunk ????[/sarcasm] 😛

[sarcasm]pretty scrawny rebar there .... [/sarcasm]

(please be assured this is totally good natured ribbing and nothing more)

Last year we started using #6 rebar under the 3.25" ACs we set (drivers). For 2 reasons-
1st more substantial monument.
2nd more distinctive if the cap goes missing.

btw- your winter looks like our winter so far. only had snow on the valley floor once so far- but it's just a matter of time.

Wait. Does that fall on a Standard Parallel? If so, you need to put two dimples in that rascal. Or get a bigger cap.

Dang... is that a 1/16th corner or

Usually, any PLSS corner gets at least a 30"rod and a 3" cap. This one was a rebar already located with the stone alongside no longer planted in the ground. So I accepted and capped the existing rebar. I didn't even locate the cap. I'd located the rebar three times by the time I set the cap. But yeah it does look flimsy.
