The PA State-Specific Exam is this Friday. I remember several guys here stating that they would be testing there. If you are testing at the SW PA location, are you staying there at the Doubletree Friday night?

I imagine they have a restaurant there at the hotel but it also looks like there is a Mexican restaurant behind the hotel within walking distance.

Does anyone want to meet up and have some burritos and margaritas?

David,

Normally I would take you up on this, but since I haven't been up north in years, I am going to head out after the exam and see family. Good luck to you with the exam.

David: Not a lot going on Downtown at night. Some places are open, but I would say not as much as other cities. The South Side (Carson Street) is where there are a lot of restaurants (and too many bars). You would probably have to take a taxi to get there, although there is most likely a bus but I don't know which one. The Hofbrau House is a german beer hall with live music (German of course) on weekends. It is right on the Monongahela River in the south side. Near that is my favorite, Mallorca, a spanish restaurant (think Paella), at the south end of the Birmingham Bridge. Also, the Strip District (no, not that kind of Strip) is close to your hotel. Just walk up Penn Avenue to about 16th street (the hotel is between 9th and 10th). The original Primanti Brothers restaurant is there, i think on 18th between Penn and Smallman. When I was a youngster it was the one and only, and was open from midnight until 6 AM only. Used to get real crazy after 2 AM when all the bars closed. Now there are many of them around the area with normal hours. Their claim to fame is thier sandwich, pile high with french fries and cole slaw on the sandwich. Gotta try it.

BTW you can take the subway free around downtown and to the north shore (PNC Park and Heinz Field. You have to pay to across the Mon to Station Square, an old RR station with shops and restaurants.

David -- I wanted to reply to you a few days ago but for some reason I cannot log into my account on this site at work. It will not accept my password. Anyhow, I will be there. I am leaving work at lunch time on Friday. I should be there around 1. The wife is coming for moral support. She is finally off doctor's orders and is able to have beer. I imagine we will go to dinner somewhere in the area before heading home for the evening. Like John said, there are a lot of places in Monroeville to eat but not many places to "lounge". Those are in the city which is about a 15 minute drive away. I guess it depends on how confident I feel once we walk out of the testing room. When the wife took her Cosmetology test, the results were instant. Unfortunately, we will be lucky to know by Christmas. See you then.

Is the exam not at the convention center downtown anymore? At one time it was in Oakland at Soldiers and Sailors Hall, which is on the Pitt campus. But when I took it a few years ago it was downtown. Not very many people in a very large room, so I could see if they moved it to Monroeville.

When I took my EIT way back in 1997 it was at S&S. When I took my PE test in 2004 it was at some hotel in Cranberry. So I am guessing they just mix up the location now based on availability and size.
