Lugeyser,

Were you ever able to get the Ranger to connect?

I looked in the archives of the other site, but was unable to find the post I made about connecting my old Ranger to my laptop.

I'm in the office today til around 2:45 or so (CST). the number is 901-837-62 seven three.

Jimmy

Jimmy,

Thanks for checking up. Here is where we stand...I could get the Ranger 200c to recognize that it was connected to my new cpu, but could not get the new cpu to recognize the ranger.

The ranger would detect the cord connection and ask me if I wanted it to connect to the cpu, I would say yes and it would make noise and exit out of the connection software(in the ranger)

I talked to Troy at Hayes Instruments who has mailed me one of the multiport adapters and the cords that go along with it. He assured me it should work. I told him you had referred me.

In the meantime I set up my old CPU running XP which has serial ports on it. I havent had that computer set up in years. I installed Activesync 4.2, and hooked it up using a straight up serial cable with the null modem gender changer on the cpu side. Worked like a champ. I tried it with my usb - serial cable on the same cpu and it didn't recognize the ranger. It acted just like my new cpu. I believe there is a problem with the cord I'm trying to use (usb to serial)

I figured I have a work around, although very inconvenient, I can just download at the old computer and then move the files I need around using a thumb drive.

As you can see I was happy to get anything to work, but I also really really hope the multiport device works. I figured I'd wait and call you once I get it if I'm still having trouble.
