I have been approved to sit for the State portion of the NC Exam in October.
Does anybody have info for study material.
(besides the typical board links to applicable state specific laws).
Whats the Storm portion of the exam like?

The drainage portion - be prepared to do channel calculations, erosion & sedimentation control practices, storm water design standards, general statutes, soil classifications (A,B,C,D). I just passed the drainage portion on the third go around, (ill-prepared first two times). I did see a couple off the wall questions. Good Luck.

For the laws portion, bring blacks law dictionary, North Carolina Geodetic Manual, General Statutes, etc.

Unless you do drainage calculations almost daily, spend time studying that. Also, we offer a one day drainage class designed to help. A few other states also test for drainage so this will not be NC specific; but, it will cover the stuff you are likely to see on the exam.
Hydrology Review

You might also consider a 2 hour video presentation I did on GS 47-30. That is the statute that governs the recording of plats in NC.

The state part was a piece of cake. make sure you know the board rules and mapping requirements. This is still open book so make sure you have a copy. The drainage for me 1 year ago was only two question we had to work out and one the other 3 were basic knowledge questions on erosion and laws that regulate drainage. Good luck to you. I will be there taking a stab at the national part..

I just passed the NC Exam (Parts B & C). A reference for Part C I would recommend is the NC DOT Minimum Construction Standards Manual for Subdivision Roads. Good luck!
