Okay, when I'm wrong, I'm wrong. There's no point in pretending otherwise and this is one of those rare times. Previously, I've been of the opinion that the fancier the North arrow on a map, the lamer the product was likely to be.

This North arrow provides both an obvious exception to that rule and offers a South, West, and East arrow, to boot. The surveyor may not appreciate the value of those other three arrows but ungeometrical attorneys almost certainly will.

I don't recall ever seeing those words typed in the comment field after that user name. Ever. 😀

I'm actually a little more confused by that sun's face. Happy? Sad? Who knows...

I think that is a philosophical North arrow, trying to decide how to best explain which way North is as presented upon the map, but without using mathematics or geometry.

Oh, few-beep RTK would be just like using few-beep PPK to locate everything. Quick, but dirty.

Clearly the face completes the Arrow, the uprolled eyes indicating the actual "North" point.

I didn't see a copyright notice on the plat upon which it appeared and, besides, I assume that Louisiana doesn't have an extradition agreement with Texas. So you would likely be safe in any event (unless Matthew McConaughey gets involved).

Actually Matthew is partying tonight with the New Orleans Film Society in the city. He has been making a lot of films here. Matter of fact 3 recently. He made a very nice speech tonight about New Orleans and Louisiana.

Yes, "True Detective", one of the documentaries, has reached a wider audience.

Is his basis of bearing from solar observations?

Well, that North Arrow appears on a 2005-vintage map that gives coordinates rounded to the nearest 0.0001 ft. So I would assume that RTK was involved.

Tongue in cheek

But that is a picture of a mexican sun god. This is a religious post.

I'm concerned that the introduction of sun worship may lead to one of the other gods getting mad, and wackin the original poster on the head with a sun stroke, or a moon beam, or even worse. I'm sure there that some bigger god may get jealous, and hurt somebody, and that would be a dis-service to the surveying community at large!

Is the Moon god bigger than the sun god?

The doctrine of asinine fairness is gonna get you!

Tut tut.

And here I thought it was just part of some new survey slogan borrowed from Divine Bovine's beef industry. "North, It's What's Up."
