We are bidding another job in the middle east and were given a set of drawings of the facility. I found this north arrow. I understand 'TN', but not much else. Anybody know what the other initials stand for?
Don't know, but.....
I think I'll start putting a "Prevailing Wind" arrow on my plats.
Don't know, but.....
LOL...Was thinking the same thing! Though knowing the way local governments are, if I did, they would then probably make it a requirement.
Maybe I could use it as a marketing tool? How many other surveyors provide this valuable information?
LPG = Liquid Propane Gas
RMP = Royal Mounted Police
FGTP = Forgot Goldarn Toilet Paper
SAA = Save All A#$%&*$#'s
my guess anyway...
Sounds like a bunch of local grids that various governments/agencies/companies have defined. Google didn't turn up a good explanation right away. Be prepared to keep converting back and forth.
North Arrow
Sorry about the misspelling in the post, and yes I thought I would get a smart Alec to mention the prevailing wind. I will keep looking. I figured that they represented local or European datum, but I am not familiar with them as of yet. When I find something it will make for a good post.
Good guesses!!
Don't know, but.....
In the past have been required to put prevailing wind arrow on two types of plats.
Municipal airport
Commercial Chicken house

Thanks for all the ideas. Maybe I will make one of those, showing
TN True North
MN Magnetic North
GN Grid North
LN Local North
Prevailing wind... say, is this political?

You say that jokingly, but in WV it is required. The statute requires boundary retracement to be done in magnetic with declination noted. We use a north arrow that lists magnetic north with declination, true north, and if we are working in grid (most of the time), grid north.
A lot of our old Fire Station site plans have the prevailing wind arrow on them.
They aren't on Boundary Surveys, though.

It better not be, because from what I've seen two different surveyors certainly won't come up with the same thought on whether the prevailing wind is "left" or "right", and it will probably never be reported as somewhere in between.....;-)

Boy, that could alter the outcome of the survey.... A liberal survey... A libertarian survey, and a Republican survey.... could have very different basis of bearings!!
🙂

I have one of them figured out from another set of drawings that just got sent to me. RMP=Plant North

That's correct, true north will be whichever direction they happen to be facing at the time of the survey.
I am afraid that not one of their arrows will be anywhere close to true north, But everyone will be arguing that theirs must be "true", because you can tell that all the others are pointing completely in the wrong direction.;-)
Okay stop me before I wear this joke out even more.

Maybe "Plan North" instead of plant?

It might be Paul, still feeling as I go on these plans. They are in Westing, Northing, Elevation and the plans don't have any projection named out on the plans. It should be interesting.
