I really enjoyed explaining to my client the difference between true north geodetic north grid north magnetic north and record north. The most fun I Have had in a long time. I guess I really am a survey geek.

I understand grid north, geodetic north, magnetic north, and record north, but what is true north?

I was under the impression that True north is Geodetic north. Wiki however tells me different:
Geodetic true north also differs very slightly from Astronomical true north (typically by a few arc seconds) because the local gravity may not point at the exact rotational axis of the earth.

West

Saw a plat the other day that had been drawn with the top of the page being West, whatever that is. I'm sure the clients loved it because it probably came closer to matching their view of things. The front of the site was at the bottom of the page.
