I have a topcon gts 905a robotic total station and my old data collector went out.?ÿ I bought an fc-5000 and bought magnet field.?ÿ Previously I used pocket3d.?ÿ I'm a concrete contractor and am trying to get a duplex foundation staked out.?ÿ I have a plot plan and located all of my property staked.?ÿ I've got everything stops and working between my rc-3, total station, and fc-5000.?ÿ I entered in ter of my property stakes and then laid out the plan using enter Plan.?ÿ I seese the total station using resection and shot my two known points.?ÿ And laid out my first corner.?ÿ To test it out I moved the total station to one of my known points and setup the backsight to my other known point.?ÿ Checked the first corner I laid out and there was a 5" difference.?ÿ I feel like I'm so close to understanding this but can't figure out what inI doing wrong.?ÿ?ÿ

Hello,
Mare you pulling my leg? ?ÿ
I would always check into at least one other known point... so if you resection using two points, do a check shot into another known point. At short distances (200?? and under) 5? is great precision for a foundation. I think that is 1/16? of an inch.?ÿ
Also a Topcon 905 has a 5 second precision as advertised.?ÿ
Pronker,
It appears to me that the OP is working in inches as he stated he is a?ÿconcrete contractor.
Therefore he is referring?ÿto?ÿ 5", as 5 inches, not seconds. Which would be very significate in a concrete layout.
Yeah I meant 5 inches not seconds.?ÿ I also tried to lay out my points and everything just being straight North from my property lines which might be my problem.?ÿ I figured if I just laid out the points then either did the backsight or resection it should abouta to the angle but I don't think it works that way either.?ÿ The plot plan shows the side property lines at n00?ø49'36".?ÿ I'm guessing I need to input my foundation points on that same angle.?ÿ My hope with magnet field was to be able to put in plans before stepping on the job site then set up and get to staking.?ÿ With pocket3d they told me to go to the site, shot my two known points then do my lay out off of that.
Your hope can be a reality, with proper guidance and training.
I can help you, offline of this board. I'm not trying to advertise here, and I'm not going to give away the farm.
Am I right in assuming you're always close enough for bluetooth?
I have a 9005 / FC200/RS-1 radio/RC-3, and always figured I would have to upgrade to a RC-4 if I wanted to use the robot with my FC-5000.

No, that is not correct.
Sounds like your plan isn't entered correctly to your surveyed site.?ÿ A fair amount of education will go a long way towards success.?ÿ
My rep from geoshack said to set the fc-5000 to only connect to the rc-3 then the rc-3 talks to the robot.

Your rep is correct.
The FC-5000 uses Bluetooth?ÿconnection to communicate with the RC-3. Then the RC-3 connects with the Robotic Instrument via Spread Spectrum radio.
Ok so I got my foundation laid out.?ÿ I believe I was wrong in assuming if I laid everything out straight then setting up with resection would adjust the actual angles.?ÿ So I laid my property stakes out according to the angles on the plot plan then laid the foundation out off of the side the plot plan had the measurements coming off of using point in direction.?ÿ Then set up my resection off of 3 of the property stakes.
I didn't think the RC-3 had an internal?ÿradio, which is why I have the RS-1 for my DC.?ÿ
?ÿ
I thought the RC-4 was the first in the Topcon line to incorporate this.
?ÿ
Am I even more confuzzled than normal?
Steve
Steve,
You are correct. The RC4 has SS radio. The RC3 is Bluetooth, then need the SS radio on your controller or use Fantam SS radio.

I don't know what kind of distance I have with it setip like I do but I've been 150'-200' away from the total station with no issue.?ÿ When I first set up magnet field my fc-5000 was connecting to the total station and would lose connection in about 40'.?ÿ I changed it to connect to the rc-3 and so far so good.?ÿ This is the first job I've used the fc-5000 on and before I had an fc-200.
I've run over 1,400' with the RC-4 without issue. Can do about 250' with Class-1 BT (Nomad) direct to gun and over 1,200' with Class-2 BT (Surveyor2) direct to gun.
My equipment is blue, not yellow, and we all know blue paint is a signal booster....

You will need to learn to work 2 sets of coordinates.
One set from the plans.
Another set, that you generate.
Rotate, translate, repeat.
Manual best fitting it.
