took this the other day- city guy out doing some topo- with his own private cone.
when he was crossing the street, it was at edge of concrete, set down cone, place rod, take shot, pick up cone, step ahead to fogline, set down cone, place rod, take shot, pick up cone, step ahead to centerline, set down cone, place rod, take shot.....i stopped and took the pic for proof. By that time he was on the sidewlk so he left the cone in one place while he was picking up those various shots.
I was a bit suprised to see him. The previous guy had retired - probably 2 years ago and they didn't fill the position- until apparently just recently.

only with my flashing light on.
Poor guy. I think I would reconsider the position if you stuck me with the orange anchor.
City Crew
Our local municipality hired a "new guy" not long back. There were two (I think) land surveyors on the staff until retirement and attrition set in. This new fella is licensed also, a nice guy.
He came in the office a few months back wondering if we had any way to turn a CR5 file into an ascii. We got the old Windows98 tower down off the shelf, dusted it off and burned him a copy of TDS. Found out later he had dug around and found and older PC that he could run the software on. He was happy.
Then a couple of months ago I was dropping off some submittals and took him my last HP48 with TDS on it, complete with null modem cable. He was a happier camper. There is a battery in those old TDS cards and I don't know how much longer it was good for, but he was welcome to it.
I guess that's the twenty-first century version of making friends with the natives with whiskey and Winchesters.;-)

Plus points for the old school x-sections though!
