I'm looking for a handheld laser distance measuring device. The one I bought from home depot is not accurate, I cannot see the laser spot under sunlight and it's bulky.

Use to use a Stanley TLM330 to measure and certify competition swimming pool lengths. All our tests with tapes and TS indicated the instrument was spot on. They were relatively small and the beam was visible at a good range. Outdoors the visibility distance was somewhat less.

I have this one around and its alright but has the same issue with sunlight. It's better for indoor use.

I think Leica still holds the gold standard with its Disto line, but none of them are going to be readily visible in bright sunlight over long distances.

I love my Leica with the built in camera... up to 3x zoom so you can see on the screen where you are shooting. Perfect for sunny southwest Florida surveying.

Our Disto A5 works great and has a small eye piece you can target through but if you're wanting to see the laser in daylight you need to find one with a green laser rather than a red. Green is the only thing that will show at any distance in daylight.

I have two of the Stanley Fat Max measuring devices. They are at home, so I do not know the model numbers. One uses a 9 volt battery, and the other one uses either AA or AAA batteries. The 9 volt model will measure in tenths of a foot. The AA or AAA model measures in inches and fractions. They are both very accurate, and work fine. The AA or AAA model just adds another step. I bought the 9 volt model at Walmart ($99), and the other one off of ebay (approx. $40), when I was setting up for another crew before the economy bottomed out in my area back in 2009.
