I am trying to setup my NCEES record so that I can apply to sit for LS exam in other states (currently registered in PA). Under work experience they ask for contact name at each company to verify experience:

Provide a contact to verify your employment with this company. To meet the requirements of most state licensing boards, select a supervisor or department manager who was licensed as an engineer or surveyor, as appropriate, at the time of your employment, can verify all of the positions you’ve held within the company, and your experience on all related projects. It is preferred that this person not be related to you by blood, marriage, or adoption.

After trying to do this today I realized that everyone I ever worked under at 5 different companies between 1979 and 1991 are now deceased. Only my previous employer before I went out on my own is alive.

Makes me realize how old I am

Its when your colleagues and school chums start popping off that you should really be worried (I am)

I don't look at the obituaries, too many are younger than I am. 🙁

I am in the same boat, the people in charge at my first employer are deceased. The same is true for my second employer. My third employer probably has 1 person that could verify my experience but I do not know where he is or how to contact him. My fourth employer, deceased. I ran my own shop for a number of years before taking one more position before ending up where I am now so I have two people that I can use. Add to that that three of these businesses no longer exist so not even proof of employment exists.

I started surveying 41 years ago when I was 18 and just recently lost one of my mentors who would have been able to vouch for my experience.
