Anybody have any experience with this data collector? We will run it with FieldGenius and want to know if it is sturdy and can withstand the cold wet weather in the Northwest. Thanks for all your help.

Its the same as a Getac 236 which I've owned since last September. Mine has been rained and snowed on with no problem. It seems like a well built unit. Notice that the keyboard is a phone pad layout, not a calculator layout so I don't use that keyboard, just the touch screen one in FieldGenius. Battery life is one day, no more.

I have one.

Nautiz X7 is definitely a truly rugged data collector. It is fast and sturdy. My only issue is the display readability in a broad daylight.

Nautiz X7 is Getac PS236.

If you want to buy a new Nautiz X7, I would highly suggest for the Getac PS336. It is an IP68 device and with faster processor than its predecessor.

Hey Dan, what about the 10x? Looks like an updated/bigger 7x.

You might want to try the MicroSurvey DC4 data collector. I'm using a CHC LT30 (exact same unit as the DC4) also and the screen is so much better to read outside than the Getac 236. The DC4 is lighter and smaller than the Getac - and the cost is much less. And it still has an internal GPS and camera! The Getac appears to be heftier and better built but the CHC is doing a good job for me. I've only had the CHC for about 4 months so I don't know how long it will last. It works great with the CHC X91 network rover and our Sokkia SRX robot. I prefer it to the Allegro that it replaced.

Algiz 10x is too big for me. I am using the Algiz 7 and it works beautifully when it comes to data collection. It provides fast and powerful processor. Screen readability under broad daylight is good. Using two extended batteries provides a whole day work.

I also have Nautiz X3. It just fits on one hand like a smartphone. It is powered with same processor as the Mesa and Nautiz X7. It provides narrow display but good enough for a simple surveying task like topo work. If you wish for maximum mobility in the field then the X3 is highly suggested based on my own experience.

Don't know about the Northwest, but in the hot wet Southeast they work fine. I bought two of them with Field Genuis and they haven't missed a beat yet.The software is idiot proof and the Nautiz 7 can take a beating, dust and water. We work mainly on construction sites where the dust never stops until the afternoon thunderstorms roll in. My only complaint is the little bitty picker thingy that comes with it. It is too skinny to hold correctly to input data.

Have a great weekend! B-)

Thanks for all the good advice. It sounds like the battery will only last one day? This may be the only weak link. I have a demo right now so we will see. Great website!
