The Nebraska Department of Roads survey crew on "O" Street in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. What year and model is the car?

And, more importantly, what color was the car? I'm thinking either Glen Green or Honey Beige.

Either Gold or Sky Blue...it's hard to tell.

My '58 'coupe' (2 door) was sky-blue. Had a 348 c.i. V8 with a "Hydra-matic" 4 speed automatic.

Looks too dark for Sky Blue and I can't imagine a City paying extra for a deluxe metallic color.

Kent,
I looked at the stock color chart here and saw a "Glen Green" if I remember correctly it was a really drab cream green, kinda "institutional" looking. That might be what color this one was.

BTW - I guess mine was technically "Aegean Turquoise Blue".

Yeah, I'm thinking Glen Green, also.

Parenthetically, it's easy to forget that once upon a time passenger cars were probably more widely used for transporting survey parties than trucks were. For one thing, trucks didn't have enough seats for a four or five-member party. Suburbans hadn't been invented, so passenger cars it was. Although sometime in the late 1950's was when the first International Harvester Carryalls were sold, if I'm remembering correctly.

Whew look at the tripod, that could not be easy to set up on an uneven surface. I have an old brass level in my office on a fixed leg tripod, its level and I never touch it. It would take me an hour to get it level again.

I'll agree it says Biscayne on the side, but, what does it say above the trunk emblem?

Definitely a '58 Chevy. I can remember yellow and pink ones. How's that for disgusting?

As for the stiff legged tripod, that's what I started out on. Add a four-post theodolite to that, with a small plumb bob on a windy day. Frustrating is the kindest word I can think of to describe the effort involved in getting a sure setup.

Except that looks like a Wild T-2 on a Wild stiff-leg tripod. If you can't set that up over a point on the pavement in under a minute, don't bother to show up for work tomorrow. :>

I was going to comment on the wide tie on the guy behind the instrumentman in the first photo before I realized it was the flag on the car fender.

clipped from Wiki..

The Chevrolet Suburban is a large sport utility vehicle from Chevrolet. It is the longest continuous use automobile nameplate in production, starting from 1934 for the 1935 U.S. model year
BTW.. the outfit I started out with in the mid sixties had 10 to 14 crews depending on the season and did not own a survey vehicle. All the party chiefs drove their own cars. The station wagon was the survey rig of choice. Most of the PCs were licensed surveyors.

My first car was a Chevrolet Biscayne, but about 10 years newer (stock rusty green) 😛

I, believe it's a Chevrolet Biscayne, 6 cylinder, V-8 had wide "V". Only 2 tail lights per side, (lacking back-up lights).
