So my equipment dealer was in town and has loaned me the sokkia version of the fc5000. I had him go ahead and order me the fc5000 so the paint would match my other gear.
Are there any other tablets I should consider?

We just started using getac t800 about 4 months now so far so good
I have a capacitive FZM1 and I love it besides the fact that in the rain it's useless. Even in it's wet mode, the screen registers the droplets as touches... I have an algiz 7 I use as my backup for the drizzling days.

Ease,
Here is an
Dropbox File (Private or Invalid)
;">FZ-M1 firmware update to improve the rain mode. Works much better now, but still triggers in the hard rain. Makes for a good excuse to get out of the rain.
Arctan,
The FC5000 and SCH5000 are both made by Juniper System which is a MESA2.
They cost less than the ToughPad FZ-M1 because they have less hardware (less RAM, Less Hard Disk, Less Accessories & Less Speed). But they do work fine. Just be certain you get a GEO model, which includes the 4g cell modem.
I just grabbed a great deal on a 2nd ToughPad FZ-M1 (to use w/ Magnet Relay) from ebay for $1200 with 8Gb RAM, 256Gb SDD, i5, OEM battery, plus 2nd long life battery, hand strap, keyboard, and two docking stations.
We have the same issue with the rain on our fc-5000...

In rain mode the mesa2/FC5000 should perform much better than the FZM1.
Make sure all the proper updates are installed
I've always liked the allegro series. They should make an allegro tablet. It would have the mesa screen with the keys attached in the same form as the allegro 2.
Thanks for the input, guys. I'll stick with the fc5000 for now.
