Greetings,
How are monuments for Government Lots to be marked? Are the corners considered sixteenth-corners and marked accordingly? I don't see these corners addressed in the Monumentation chapter of the 2009 or 1973 BLM Manuals.
Thanks.
I mark them as 1/16th corners, the corner common to lots 3, 4 and 5 in section 6 would be the NW1/16.
I'm with Moe. Set according to the patent, plat and notes and mark per the manual...
If they are aliqout corners then they are marked that way. If not they are marked as APs
Here is a copy of a survey I did in a couple of Elongated Sections?ÿthat may help answer your question. The Elongated Section diagram in the Manual may also help to answer your question. I ran this through the BLM guys in Cheyenne prior to marking and setting the monuments for their feedback as to whether I had them marked correctly. They told me I was right, the way I was going to mark them.

Thankyou all for these suggestions. I am going with the idea that corners of lots are sixteenth corners, as even corners of lots in elongated sections are sixteenth corners. Thanks again for the help.
Here's a BLM poster I have that I've been just waiting for the right time to share.?ÿ Maybe you've all seen this before, but it goes into excruciating detail compared to what's in the 2009 manual.?ÿ It's a 5mb file, so you might want to download it before viewing.
There are elongated sections and sections "invaded" by tracts and rivers, one of my favorites is a Section I worked in along the Power River:

Alan and Charles show the "proper" examples of elongated sections from the BLM, yet in Loyal's example the BLM used Lot #s. If it's just a standard closing section you can't go wrong using the standard 1/16th corner markings, but if you are in an elongated section or one like Section 31 in the example above I can't see anyone complaining if you mark them with lot #s.
