Looking for suggestions on marking equipment for quick and easy identification as to what goes with what, only, not for inventory.

We have some oil based color Sharpies and plan on marking by a "dot" using a color code. Perhaps a clear coat such as clear fingernail polish to help maintain it's longevity?

Thanks !

You can get a garage sale pricing kit from most dollar stores.

Colored dots (have prices on them but who cares)

Many colors and they have stickum on the back.

Works for this redneck.

Simple "Liquid Paper Correction pen" will semi-permanently identify dark plastic things like fishing rods, electric transformers, survey items, etc. The paint flows through like a pen and is able to write pretty small with a little practice. It is fairly durable depending on how clean and dry the surface was. It is easy to re-mark after it dries.

I just went down to ACE and picked up a sheet of alphabet stickers. All of the kit for each receiver is marked with the same letter.

I don't like to use sharpies directly on my equipment (total station, GNSS receiver, etc.) I think it takes away from their value.

I have been using a Brother label maker. They're relatively inexpensive, offer lots of flexibility, and look neat. Good in the office and for use with equipment.

Why? The only thing that I could think of is that you have multiple prisms with different offsets. 0, 30 and 40 are pretty easy to differentiate.

Otherwise, use different colored spray paints. Just a quick shot and you're good to go on the back of the prism and the side of the pole and one leg of a tripod. Hell, for that matter, put a shot on the outside of the gun case. Then you can say, okay, today you're on the orange/white/pink/blue crew.

Fingernail polish is available in just about every color of the rainbow. Blue, Green, Red, Purple are readily available. Put a neat dot in a few out of the way but readily visible places.
