I'm heading to a incorporated city to hand in a Parcel Map for checking. I knew that fee's were involved but could not get hold of anyone at the city to tell me what they are, so I searched the city site with 'map check fees' and under the Parcel Map listing it said "County Fee".

So I check out the LA County fee schedule and I was blown away.

The subdivider for a 1 lot (merger of 3 lots into 1) Parcel Map has to cough up $ 5,549 just to have a part time civil check the map.

That's more than I got for the entire job!!!!

I believe fees like that are being used as a way for the local gov. to restrict development that they cannot accomplish under existing laws and regulations. JRL

Big government

Some 'engineer' to review and push some paper.

I'll bet this 'engineer' has 6 figure salary
5 weeks paid vacation, pd insurance,
pd sick time (12 days / Yr) that accumulates
full pension & benis upon retirement

Map check fees - CARL

Are you sure all of that $5549 is for a civil to check it? I am guessing it's probably $5545 for a civil and the additional $4 is for a surveyor.:-P

What is that you speak of "Map check fees"

lol

Nothing of the sort in my big, but sparsely populated county.

A few rules to follow, but no one sticking their hand out with fees to check a RPLS who should have it correct.

I might suggest to the County that we need to implement such a rule and I would gladly take the job.

With California costs, of course.

lol again

Randy

You can buy buildable lots here for less than that.

Some of our county's have review fee's at about half of that price for survey, but by the time you add in City Site Development fee's, planning review fee's, environmental (storm water) review fees, ect.., ect.. ect. You get to a total price that will make your head spin.

I am not happy with taxes but No free lunch, right?

This is what happens when NO ONE wants to fund the government services that they need and want. It is just a bunch of game playing, taxes are cut in one place and offsets spring up in another place in the form of fees.

In Alabama, the application fees for subdivision plat review and approval are less than $400.

Huntington Park. Like I said earlier, the city fees are whatever the county fees are, and for a 1 lot PM it's $ 5,549.00. There may be additional fee's as well..to be discovered.

That is absurd.

Subdivision review fees around here are generally < $100.00 except in the highly developed municipalities, where the fees can be in the thousands for a major land development.

We are a non-recording state, so survey plats are not reviewed.

Dunno bout all that, but I do know that the engineer is a contract individual.
