I just got back from 3 days out of town doing an ALTA TOPO on a 3 acre abandoned retail store.

Using my TDS on board software with absolutely no problems like this over that last 12 years on my Leica TCA 1100 I get home only to find my cr5 and rw5 files corrupted.

How do I share these files with you?

This is terrible!

Do you have any advice?

Thanks, Brad

I would call TDS and/or Leica tech support and see if they might have experience with something like this. Even if it cost money, it sounds like it would be worth it.

Are you able to download anything from your instrument to a PC?

I sure hope this works out for you Brad..I really do. I have had a few scares when my DC suddenly says that all memory is lost, but so far I have not lost any files...I'm probably due for that

NEVER MIND

Well I don't know yet if it is the OMNI DRIVE $500 old school pc card reader I had to buy from Germany...

...or what it is yet...

BUT, I was able to downloaad the 699 shots through my OLD 1997 Gateway Laptop that reads these OLD PC Cards that Leica told me was the wave of the future in 1998.

I lost the raw data & therefore the line work, but that is okay today.

Whew what a relief.

I guess bottom line is that this sh t (technology) gets old fast when you pay big bucks for it, take it off the shelf & drive it home. It becomes quickly obsolete.

That's great news. I imagine most everyone here know that sick feeling when you realize that a digital file that you have invested hours or days has somehow been lost.

If the Omni drive is toast, get the Addonics drive to replace it. Its only $55.00 and works awesome.

Do you know if that drive will support the older Sram cards used in the Leica 1000's? That is supported up through Vista on a laptop using a 3rd party software with the correct drivers, HOWEVER almost none of the new laptops now have a PC Card slot, only Express cards, so an external drive is becoming mandatory.

Nor sure about the SRAM cards for the 1000. I do know that it works great for my cards with the 1100 series.

I just had a flash card slot installed in my desktop so I have a single machine that will do everything. My laptop has both 9 pin (for the 48GX) and flash card (for the 1103) but does not have cad.

Even Better News Today!

I got the rw5 file to convert successfully to an fbk and therefore got my raw data & linework too.

So, everything worked just fine today. Omni Drive is apparently okay, etc...

Must have been gremlins or karma or something.

Regarding the karma, it has been a very good 14 months for me so far, so maybe I was due to get smacked in the back of the head...

Always download daily. Do not trust Data collectors to retain files or transfer old files.

Actually, with a laptop, working away from home, it is my preference to download at noon and before leaving the field in the afternoon. That way I will not have a problem with more than 1/2 day production and I know I will have good data before I leave the site to return home.
