I was updating my Linkedin profile the other day and unless I missed something, the choices of profession didn't include anything closer to surveying than "civil engineering" so I reluctantly clicked that. I'm still not real sure what Linkedin does for me but I was invited by some presumably reliable people so I signed up.

Linked in has been getting messages for months from many surveyors to create an appropriate category. They finally responded to one surveyor basically saying sorry, but ain't gonna happen at this time.

Until then, each surveyor has to choose the category most closely related to one's practice. Most choose engineering, some choose legal.

Where are you getting this information that the survey is supposed to start at 10 am PST, and that you are supposed to observe NGS benchmarks, 10 miles apart, hilly areas, etc.?

Occupy a very public point, notify your local newspaper that you will be available for general public discussion from 10 until 2 pm....

Submit your data for inclusion in the OPUS data base...

Yeah I know. This event is mostly for PR, I don't think it matters what you occupy. NGS isn't using this data for anything that they don't normally use it for. I can publish to NGS OPUS DB anytime. I can also send in hand held accuracy coordinates on NGS benchmarks anytime I want as well. Besides PR (good luck with that), I don't know what purpose this serves.
