I can handle the cold, but the snow is getting crazy deep here. Must be over 3 feet on the ground now and another 3 or 4 inches every morning. Work load is slow this winter as most and I am okay with that.

Me too... even down here in the "south" in Virginia. We're gonna have another POLAR VORTEX next Tuesday, it might even be colder than it was the last time.

Another Polar Vortex coming

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the other hand, you could be here and have 70° weather, but less than 2" of rain this winter, and basically no snow pack. We'll take some of that snow off your hands. I'd take the cold too.

Current at 10:30 a.m.

A toasty 7 F with a wind chill of -10 F. Much better than four hours ago.

My guys are out in the field today pulling inverts on structures and doing topo. I gave them the option of not working, but they wanted to anyway. They think I'm getting soft. They're probably right too.

cold winter and ponds

In August of 2012 (hot and dry) most of the stock ponds around here had dried up. One of the crews came in one afternoon and had found 3 axes laying about in the silt near the edge of what would be a pond if it ever rained. One was almost complete, the other two were missing various lengths of their handles.

None of the crew could figure out why anybody would lose an ax in a pond.

I told them to go down the hall and ask the fella that had cattle...

Quess I went far enough South this fall!

I try to get out of Nome by the time the ocean is freezing. Here in Anchorage, it's 42 deg (above 0!) and raining! Flippin' parking lot here at the office is a dammed skating rink!

Here's a shot from two days ago. The condensation from my breath was making my eye lashes freeze together when I would blink.

🙂 I like the comment a guy made in our local newspaper:
"with all the global warming it just doesn't seem fair
we can't get a little buzz in the winter from it"
