I'd like to see a survey that has notes like this:
A.) Found Nail in Rock Pile, with original GLO evidence. This is an original corner.
B.) Found 1" rebar, ASSUMED the stupid thing is right, because it is big, and painted, but I have no idea if it is anything.
C.) Found Tree fence corner. Coordinate is about in the middle at the south side. I am assuming, because my client says he won't pay me to check it's pedigree. And, I have a boat payment.
D.) Found 1/2" rebar. It might have been set by a realtor, or a UFO. But, I like it, because it made my metal detector zing.....
E.) Now, this corner is a fence corner. Probably set by deviate means, because the landowner to the west was ALWAYS moving his fence OUT to gain land. But, who am I to start a fight with a rich bully? I have a GPS payment to make too!
I hope everybody is having a happy happy happy day.
So would I 🙂
Found original monument 0.3' North, by 0.25' West of the actual corner.
I especially like D. I have seen to many pieces of metal a few feet away from an original stone accepted as gospel.
My favorite pet peeve on a recorded plat is "found #5 rebar with (specified color) plastic cap (illeg)".
1. they didn't dig down to verify the rebar size.
2. the cap is legible sometimes in nearly new condition.
3. the cap is some other color or some other composite material
When my crew labels a point as illegible, they better have pictures or they're going back on their own time.
"Found 1/4" iron rod" - a 60d spike with the head broken off
"Found 1/2" iron rod" - the head of a 60d spike
"Found PK" - a Mag nail
"Found Mag Nail" - a PK nail
"Found Really LOUD Buzz in Intersection of County Roads" - REALLY REALLY Loud - Painted new dot on pavement.
B. Made me smile, I found one of those a couple weeks ago, couple feet of platted distance, but occupation matched the rebar not the platted distance.....still don't know what to make of it.

I have a couple of those I'm currently working on. But the bastards are deep, I've dug thru 6in of asphalt and I can tell they are much deeper. Anybody ever just call it and file a corner record with accessories? I'd have to sawcut asphalt and take a mini ex to get to it. I'm sure my superiors would not like me to do that in a US Highway centerline.
Most of the time where I work when you find some sort of marker is was never described in a deed or even on older subdivision plats. Standard wording on older plats was it was staked. No mention of what was placed. But I do find markers in old subdivisions, just need to seek out enough to establish some sort of likeness to the others.
So describing what was found is good but how does it relate to what wasn't described in the beginning?

In Oregon IPF = iron pipe found and IRF= iron rod found. In Oklahoma IPF = iron pin found and nobody ever admitted to finding a pipe, so I don't know what that would be.
BMFPOMS = ANYTHING BIG AND METALLIC
[SARCASM]Found 3/4? Iron Pipe tagged RE46, 0.14??S, 0.07??W.
You see the non original block corner PIs supersede the non original interior Deed corners that don??t precisely match my block breakdown.[/SARCASM]
