Yes, i know I need to get the instrument calibrated, which I will do soon.

In the meantime the specs state range of measurement 1.5m (4.92') to 300m (without reflector).?ÿ Extended Range.

Just testing in the house for now, if I shoot 6', I'm getting 1 inch or so too much??ÿ If I shoot further about 20' it's spot on.?ÿ Everything seems colimated and spot on via the sight reticule and target.?ÿ Even the course sites are.

Just curious.?ÿ Obviously the specs state 1.5m, so anything below 1.5m will be incorrect, correct??ÿ Is this typical??ÿ For some reason though when I first received it, I did a 4' test and it was spot on... which is less than 1.5m, but now it's reading off too much?

I will try testing using mini peanut prism also using IR to see if short distances are also incorrect.

Can the instrument's reflectorless laser EDM be calibrated without taking it in?

?ÿ

You can only adjust the position of the red red laser not the EDM.?ÿ

You shouldn't shoot within the minimum distance for anything important...that said I once took a reflectorless shot on a top nut of a fire hydrant while setup on a nail in the corner of the fire hydrant pad. The distance was less than half a meter and it was a ridiculous vertical angle and somehow the tcrp1203+ got the shot within millimeters of the original coordinate. That one blew my mind.?ÿ

I planned on doing a separate proper check after but I just needed some reassurance before I got started.?ÿ

I always assumed that the minimum distance spec meant that you couldn't reliably get a shot that close, but the few time's I've pulled in tighter I've not noticed any discrepancies.?ÿ (Maybe it's because those were probably topo shots that wouldn't matter if they were off a tenth or so.)

Thanks guys.?ÿ So it's "obviously" common that this model or similar will more than likley not be accurate "obviously" below the stated specs of <1.5 m.?ÿ Yes, anything critical wont be relied on then if less than stated specs.

I also have a Leica S910 Disto also that is very accurate at small distances... 2" to 984'.?ÿ But I think that is the same NEWER reflectorless EDM technology as in the newer Leica total stations though.

I think I figured out why the distances were off using Refelectorless (RL) and Infrared Reflector (IR)(using a GMP111 +17.5mm constant version).

Seems to be a bug in FieldGenius (latest DEMO v11.4.0.524)?

If I select RL take measurement, it is too long first reading.?ÿ Once I change from RL to IR, take measurement, then switch back to RL, the final measurement is now correct.

Just posting this in case someone else runs into this.

Short test distance was exactly 6'.

@timd1971?ÿ

Crap, I'll have to check this. I just transferred our fieldgenius license to my tsc7 and updated it to 11.4x when I did that. It's just for a backup, but if I have a local/ground job to do and I need reflectorless shots I planned to take the Leica. I tried it out the other day on one as built, to make sure it was working before we sell the tablet I used to use, but ended up not needing to use reflectorless.?ÿ

I'd just double check your shots before you get going to far along just in case.?ÿ May be a bug only with my TCRA1103 Plus... may not affect your instrument etc.

But yes, it was driving me cRaZy why my first RL shot was off by 1" or so at 6' RL check.?ÿ But once I switched from RL to IR then back to RL it read exactly 6' after that??ÿ If I restart FieldGenius I have to do this at start each time... so this will be my new habit to do each start.

Again, it may be a bug in either FG or the unit itself.?ÿ I will try WITHOUT FG also to see if it's the unit.

?ÿ

UPDATE:?ÿ Just tested without FieldGenius.?ÿ Using only the instrument it measures correct 6' using RL.?ÿ No need to set to IR, take shot, then set back to RL for correct RL shot.?ÿ Seems I will have to make sure to do this in FG before starting.

UPDATE2:?ÿ the difference of the 1st RL shot (comes up too short) and the second correct RL shot is 34.4mm.

So it's like the RL first shot isn't being taking into account of the built-in Leica -34.4mm offset (0mm absolute). After changing over to IR, then back to RL, then it registers correctly.?ÿ Hope this helps anyone seeing this problem.
