Well the consensus seems to be that my board is dying a slow death. It's been a good instrument since 2002 when it became mine. I bought it new and it's been a reliable instrument.

My problem is that I am still paying off the leica gps I bought last year and I'd rather not start financing a new instrument. I'd rather wait a year.

I am a 'Wild Surveyor" as they used to say, I've always used Wild/Leica except for my first instrument the K&E Paragon.

So, I am thinking of buying a used lecia tcr1105 and using it, either as parts, or use mine for parts, if necessary.

Therefore, I am in the market for a TCR1105. If you have one that's not being used would you consider selling? Trade in for the instrument has dropped to under $1000, but I am finding them on ebay in the $3,500 range.

Or, if you have another idea then let me know!

What do you think the new replacement for the tcr1105 is going to be? I don't know the current Leica offerings but I'll be finding out pretty soon!

thanks,

Dtp

Is anyone running the TS06 series? I have found that my dealer has a great sale going on right now, $6,800...... it will run with either of my data collectors!

I am watching this thread with interest. I will most certainly shed a tear if my TCA1100 (1998) ever gives up the ghost. She has been so good to me.

I had the board replaced in a Leica TC303 last year for $1,000, but they couldn't get a new board.

Try your Leica rep. As they may have a used one from a trade in that you could purchase.

No new spare parts available now.

If you are interested, have a TCRA 1103 robotic setup with Hayes radios and a Ranger data collector that could be had. Email me at plp@zebra.net if interested.

Hello foggyidea,

I've noticed some 1" 1100 series instruments on ebay at the moment for pretty decent prices. I'd jump on one of those if I was in the market. I've been trying to assess what a 5" instrument really means in the real world as far as absolute subtended angles between any points two points on the circle, and if my latest testing is indicative then I'm not liking what it means. If you do any long shots on a regular basis pony up the little bit extra and drop it on a 1" instrument. The non-plus 1200 series instruments aren't bad value either. If you aren't using a robotic setup and don't use ATR then you may well be able to stretch it to a new TS06 or similar, which you could option with a very good (best in the business) reflectorless capability.

I also have the 1105. It does not get to see the outside of the box much anymore, but when it is needed it delivers.

Have you called Geoshack? They have pulled me out of the mud plenty of times.

Good Luck!

Leica TCR1105 update>solution

I have decided to go with the TS06 because my dealer is having an end of year sale and I can get the TS06 plus for $6,800. and here I thought I was looking at 15K+ for a new instrument.

It seems that the TS06 is about as close as I can get to the 1105. But it can run off either of my data collectors, lecia or Carlson.

I will keep the 1105 because it is an awesome gun. I did scope out ebay, my dealer, other dealers, and could find an 1103/1105 for about 3K, or slightly more. I just figure that for just twice that price I can go with a new gun and not about the next board failure for another ten years or more 🙂

Randy, what are you using for your daily gun these days?

Fog,

It seems that RTK is my daily gun these days.

Use the Robot on occasion, but not even close to dialy.

But the 1105 is ready for action at a moments notice.

Hope your new choice works out for you.

Leica TCR1105 update>Randy

At least the 1105 will fun to use at the range for spotting!

You're lucky to get that kind of use out of the rtk, I get about 40% of my topo done with it, and then some elevation transfer too, in conjunction with my other gps for static observations.

Have a good holiday season.

Leica TCR1105 update>solution

We have one TS02 and all our others are TS06's. They're nice instruments, and run nicely with our Carlson Surveyor DC's. The bluetooth is great too.

We have one Ranger with a the bluetooth connection also, but the touchscreen is dying, and the screen itself is having some issues also. We've started using the Viva controller with that instrument, which is little less user-friendly, but gets the job done.

Leica TCR1105 update>solution

Donald,
I am selling right now on EBAY my old TRCA11505 PLUS with power search robotic gun with a full robotic set. The gun is great like all Leica equipment but I just bought Leica TS15 I so need to sell the old one because do not utilize it anymore: See more pictures here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131434554309?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

I am Connecticut so you are might not far away in case in you would like to take a look at it.

It probably more expensive that you are looking for but it certainly one man crew gun.

Thanks Gregory

But I have gone with a new Leica ts06. I'm concerned that since the 1100 series is no longer supported by Leica, and hasn't been for several years, that an investment in the series would be wasted!

Thanks Gregory

Thanks Donald.
It is probably right choice if you have troubles with service of the gun.
I personally in our area never heard that Leica dealer would state that they do not have parts or are not going to service the total station.
Example: In November 2013 they completely took apart this gun, replaced some small stuff and serviced it. They did say it takes longer to do it because they had to order directly from Leica some of the parts.
