We just got a new Leica Viva data collector running the new version of Smartworx. I have a slightly older ATX1230+GNSS receiver. Actually it says ATX1230GG inside the unit, but I know it has GLONASS capability. (It must have been modified and GNSS Sticker was put on the side).

Anyway, the receiver does not appear in my list of instruments on the Viva. Can I download the Firmware file and load it onto the Viva to connect to this receiver, or is the firmware what gets loaded directly onto the receiver? How do I add this instrument to the list of receivers to be able to connect them together?

Here is a link I found for the firmware download.

1 Talk to your leic support person

2 I think you need to run it in smart worx terminal mode, so it just acts as a dumb screen and keyboard.

I'm in the same boat. We got a new TS12 robot with a Viva collector and also have ATX1230GG receivers. My understanding is that the ATX1230 can only be used with the RX12xx data collectors because they put the GPS engine in the DC. Apparently the ATX1230 amounts to nothing but an antenna and a bluetooth module. The rest happens on board the DC. Our RX1250's are starting to die and we have no way to replace them. For this reason, I will never purchase another Leica GPS unit. We had Carlson installed on our Viva controller along with Smartworx so that we can use 3rd party GPS receivers. By the way, the GG means its Glonass capable.

The ATX1230 (all models) are no compatible with any of the new CS data collectors. You can only run the ATX1230 antennas with the RX1250 data collectors.

I am not sure if this will help....

Leica's corporate procedure is that all equipment must be serviced for 5 years after the end of production date. I believe the end of production for the RX1250 is in DEC09. I would have to verify the end of production date. So, the RX1250's must have parts for service as per corporate policy for Leica until around DEC14. After that date the technicians can reapir a instrument but will have to rely on parts that remain in inventory.

I am not sure if this information will help if you need to have the RX1250's repaired. I would call the Costa Mesa Leica Center in California and talk to their Service Department if you need to have the RX1250's repaired. Call 714-382-7104

Runs it in terminal mode. Wasnt a problem for our crews, although we upgraded everything to GS15's though.

So you're saying that I can make the connection and use this ATX1230+Glonass in "Terminal Mode"? Do I lose some functionality running it in this way?

I dont think you will lost any functionality. Its pretty much the like having an RX1250 connected to it. You can then even save the files on the sd card in the collector and import into Viva Smartoworx when you want to run conventional gear with it or another GS.

The terminal mode on a CS15 controller is for connecting to a GX1200 receiver not a ATX1230. The terminal mode will allow the CS15 to be used in place of the older RX1200 which was the terminal display for the GX1200 (box) receivers.

for connecting to a GX1200 receiver not a ATX1230.

I apologize about the miscommunication. I assumed he was connecting to a GX1200 and not the ATX.
