Just curious what colors everyone uses for layout outside of the normal utility colors. Having a discussion with contractor.

I try to use Orange as little as possible, they sell Pink and Orange at the hardware stores, and every time I pull into a construction site all I see it Orange, so if I dont use Orange I can tell which points are mine and not mine.

Dark Green for sanitary sewer, light green for storm sewer, red and blue for the firewater, white for pavement, yellow for gas or other pipelines, also depends on how many rolls I have in the truck that day. Pink mostly for boundary and control points. Every job is different.

survey control pink

boundary control blue and white

benchmark red white and blue

sewer green

storm sewer yellow but never with paint, only flagging

gas yellow

steam yellow

water blue

comm orange

grid, cl, special pink

curb and conc white

for grade pink is finish blue is toprock and red is top dirt

try to use black chalk for the color blind if snapping lines

I do not have much passion for it other than blue and white for boundary, I will change whatever for whatever reason. I like pink paint for something to pop and white paint for something to mellow.?ÿ

Anything but white (it was all that was in the truck).?ÿ Had that burn me once on a summer topo that I came back to in January for some infill.?ÿ Luckily, most of my flagging was still kicking around so things worked themselves out.

I worked with a party chief once who was color blind but could see white flagging in a snowstorm from half mile. I also have a contractor who is color blind and we use blue for everything because that is what he can see. I always ask what the user expects or can see.
