Good Day Folks,
I've had this transit sitting in my closet for about 20 yrs. It was given to me by my grandfather and it was his father's. The time has come for me to sell it and any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. The only number I can get off of it is 22070 which is stamped on the piece as well as on the nameplate that is on the outside of the case. I hope to put it on Ebay and get a fair price. It is is fantastic shape and would look beautiful on display-it also has a tripod that looks to be from the same period. I've attached pics. I thank you in advance!

Well...that is a nice instrument you have there. Not sure why you would even want to sell it knowing the historic background of it. Not even sure that you'll get what you're hoping to get for it with today's economy.

But I could be wrong....

K&E serial numbers by date

Looks like it was made in 1910, which model is it?

Mine, made in 1950's was $250 at a yard sale, but in much better condition. That included a tripod and a wye level from 1860's...

The old K&E's don't seem to bring as much as i would expect, maybe to many were made!

I appreciate everyone's input. I don't know what model it is other than the model # and I can't seem to get any info with that. I had to dummy down the resolution so the pics don't really do it justice. I see similar ones on ebay, which is where it's going. Don't want to get rid of it but the economy has taken it's toll.

I would post a price here before you go the ebay route. You have a captive audience of surveyors. As far as price goes, it is a bad time to be selling antiques. I would hang a price tag of about $400-500 on it and take offers.

Hello,

You have a nice K&E preliminary one minute transit there, I think. The model number should be on the door label (don't have a catalog in front of me but I think it's a model 9129). Too bad your situation won't let you keep it, family history and all. When you list it on Ebay, it should bring a good price as these smaller transits are fairly uncommon. Five years ago it could have brouht $750 to $1000, but today about half that is more likely. Unless you get two guys who have to have it. The presence of the reading glass, sunshade, objective cover, plumb bob and tripod all add value.

Be careful how you pack it when you ship it. Good Luck to you.

Mike

The face of the compass around North it says Keuffel & Esser Co and around South it says New York. I can't find anything that says Paragon on it. Thanks-Tim
