Nice looking instrument.

As far as temperature-I had a 30" K&E freeze up on me during the winter of '82 while doing title surveys in Austin, TX. The upper motion actually froze to the lower motion. If I remember correctly, it was about 18°.
We used to say the same thing when arguing about fieldbooks vs. data collectors...no batteries needed!

I always thought I was doing somthing skilled when using my transit - skill required you can't just push buttons (you have to turn screws). Knowing how to use a transit was part of your job security back then.

I was thinking about this the other day.....

When was the last time any one set a property corner (did the entire survey) without the use of something that took a battery?

For me, it was probably sometime in the late 80's......
