I wonder if I can establish connection between the CTR16 and Parani SD1000. Any idea or experience? Thank you.

I think one is radio and one is Bluetooth so they shouldn't work, although I could be confused.?ÿ

@350rocketmike I was able to connect SurvCE on Allegro 2 to Parani SD1000. The SD1000 is recognized in SurvCE as Bluetooth Radio. Allegro 2 is equipped with internal LRBT.

Fieldgenius on Allegro 2 can't see the Parani SD1000. This confuses me.

I am considering to buy Leica CTR16 for my GS15 to establish a long range link with the Leica RH16. Unfortunately, if I intend to establish a long range connection to any manual total station like Leica Flexline, using a bluetooth serial adapter like the Parani SD1000 is the only solution that I know. Using Leica TCPS29 bluetooth radio modem provides another solution but a very expensive approach and not practical for the type of work I'm in.

I just figured out the FG connectivity issue to Parani SD1000. I created SPP (Serial Port Profile) in Windows Mobile.

  • I was just about to say that I has to set it up in windows 10 prior to connecting with fieldgenius, but that was a while back. Glad to hear it's working now.?ÿ

@350rocketmike My question here is actually the possibility to establish connection between Leica CTR16 and Parani SD1000. Leica is so proprietary as we all know.

  1. I'm not really familiar with the ctr16 but I thought it was a radio cap that went on the old Leica cs15 data collector to communicate with the older RH15 radio handle? (which is not Bluetooth) We upgraded ours to the rh17 Bluetooth radio handle so I could use it with a modern windows 10 tablet, but before we got the newer radio handle I just used a set of paranis for long range Bluetooth. Only issue was it caused a major battery drain from fieldgenius and would crash anytime I got beyond Bluetooth range.?ÿ

The CTR16 cap is for communicating with long range bluetooth such as the CRT16.

I stand corrected. Looks like it was meant as an upgrade to the old Leica cs15 to use with a Bluetooth rh16 instead of the previous RH15. Also the tcp29 radio is in fact Bluetooth so it's possible it would work with the parani although as you said being proprietary could be an issue. However I had no issues with the built in long range Bluetooth in the Panasonic toughpad connecting to the Leica rh17 as opposed to just using an inferior Leica cs15 or cs20.?ÿ

I would figure you should be able to get it to work.?ÿ I'm sure the LRBT in the CS35 & now the CS30 are just out of the box radios.

I just tried to establish connection between CS15/CTR16 to TS/Parani but with no success.

Is Parani win utility windows or wince app?

Thank you.

Paraniwin is a windows utility tha that you can donload from Sena's website. You'll need a pc with a serial port to plug in the SD1000 and program it to connect to whatever Bluetooth finds in range. I did this in order to connect my SD1000 to the RH16 radio handle.

@ramses I am able to connect my Allegro2 with its internal LRBT module to RH16 with no issues.

According to Leica, RH16, CTR16, and TCPS29 are all equipped with same technology. This is exactly the reason why I bought CTR16 to achieve long range connection between my CS15 and Parani. Unfortunately, the CTR16 can't see it. I don't know if I miss something but I would think that the CTR16 is designed to only communicate with RH16/17 and TCPS29/30. If they are all equipped with same technology then it confuses me why RH16 and TCPS29 allow communication with 3rd party LRBT devices.
