Is anyone laying out directly from the IFC??ÿ Creating points and staking right on the model instead of using a DXF?
Yes.?ÿ Back in my VDC days,?ÿ we were beta testing the new version of Autodesk BIM 360 Layout.?ÿ Everything was connected to the cloud and live from the Revit model.?ÿ Used iPads or another tablet that I can't think of off the top of my head.?ÿ It was pretty slick having that connectivity with the layout carpenters.?ÿ ?ÿNowadays, my old company loads the model into "Dusty" the robot and he buzzes around the floor putting down interior walls and whatever else you need.?ÿ A robotic total station stays in contact with it and establishes it's position.?ÿ?ÿ
I played around with it a while back but never tested it on a real job site. Seemed to work fine but that was of course with my own testing model.
Our fellow surveyors outside the USA might be able to shed some more light - I got the impression that IFC/BIM staking was more common in Europe.
We're lucky to get decent digital 2D CAD files for most jobs; a good 3D model is even more unlikely.
@jflamm that's great if you are on a concrete floor- it would be some trick on a pan form.?ÿ
