The flip side of telling someone you "used to be a surveyor" can be fun also.?ÿ From time to time I run upon other surveyor's field hands toiling away on some desolate stretch of asphalt and pretend I don't know a thing about what they're doing.?ÿ Since the equipment is nestled under cover my truck and I are full ninja mode.

Some hands are straight forward and informative.?ÿ Other times I get a load of patronizing BS.?ÿ It's about 50-50.?ÿ I get a kick out of it though.?ÿ

I've done that to some crews surveying around my wife's office before. Just asked them what they were doing and lots of annoying questions. When I saw that the I-man was starting to get irritated I let him know I was a surveyor as well. I then showed them where the corner they were looking for was at, made their day a lot easier.?ÿ

One time I was driving to Arkadelphia, on Hwy. 8 from glenwood. I had an old wood tripod in the back of my truck. AHTD had a crew out there beside the road, monumenting the r/w.?ÿ

I pulled up to them, and tried to sell them my tripod, for a couple of hunnerd bucks. I explained that I'd found it a few weeks back beside the road, with a mirror on top, that made you look upside down.

I had em going real good, until I could take it no more, and admitted I was a surveyor.

Back to work.

Nate

Apologies, but this post reminded me of this very funny joke.

Another firm in this area had their base setup stolen from a location they have used over 50 times over the years.?ÿ First time experience for them.?ÿ The office manager put the news out on Facebook (oops, that's Deadbook now).?ÿ A friend then reposted it.?ÿ A few days later that friend received a call from a guy who said it might know where the electronic head thingy was but knew nothing about the tripod.?ÿ They guy reported he knew another guy who had some bad habits and he was sure he had seen it at the other guy's place.?ÿ A few days later a dropoff was made successfully.?ÿ It was the missing base unit and still in the same condition as when stolen.

@paden-cash?ÿ

I rolled up?ÿon some guys the other day. Their equipment was still setup and they were both sitting down and huddled over a data collector. I rolled?ÿdown my window and asked if they had it figured out yet. They both looked up at me curiously and one of them replied, ƒ??almostƒ?. As I drove away I saw them look back at my truck for clues as to who was asking.?ÿ

This brings me back to the "If I Won A Lottery" thread.

I buy one of each of the cars/trucks named for or related to surveying, and line them up in that "big dream home" driveway.

As I started thinking about it, it turns out it would have to be a long driveway:

Traverse, Prizm, Compass, Pathfinder, Outlander, Trail Blazer, Voyager, Land Rover, Range Rover, Expedition, Focus, Highlander, Horizon, Land Cruiser, Mountaineer, Navigator,?ÿ Pathfinder.

I'm sure there may be a couple more.

Of course, I'd also have to buy a Forenza............

?ÿ

@not-my-real-name

Goes hand in hand with David Lee Roth-- "I used to have a drug problem, but now I can afford it".
