I've been trying to fit a 1/4 mile long easement written in 1905 in the SE 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of Section 18, which was surveyed in 1865.
While examining the GLO plat, for the first time ever, I studied the survey summary at the bottom of the sheet. It states that the survey consists of 60 miles 20 chains and 40 links. Thinking about that fact I realized that an additional 30 plus miles of walking back to the beginning of the next survey operation would have been required. Most of it was probably done on horseback or in a wagon but still that is a lot of ground to cover.
The sad thing is I have been trying to get this easement to fit for about six months. The survey was completed in July and August of 1865. I am soooo ashamed.
