Hi,
I got the opportunity to buy Hilti pos robotic total station (3" angle acc.) for a good price,
I need a robot for some construction business, but I don't have anybody with experience with their TS.
This one is in mint condition, almost new and I could get it for a 1/2 price of 10yrs used Trimble S6.
Does anybody know anything about their TS, any advice?
?ÿ
I've never heard of them making instruments.?ÿ Do you have a picture??ÿ?ÿ When I see "POS" I usually don't think of anything good.?ÿ
?ÿ
I just looked them up and see that the web listed price is $41,000!!?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ That seems really high for what I assume is likely a re-branded something or other.?ÿ
?ÿ
for 40k why not get a Trimble or Leica???ÿ
This is used one,
His price is almost 10 times less than new (about 5000$).
Used Trimble or Leica is 11000$ min.
I think they made this station in collaboration with Trimble.
Any time something is so bargain priced I have to wonder about either its condition or it's legal history.
The seller got it in compensation for debt, he asked 10000$ for TS, but surveyors in my country don't wanna buy it, here you can sell Leica, Trimble, Sokkia, and Topcon only.
So he lowers the price to get at least something.
The previous owner was a construction company, who bankrupt and has big debts to seller and he took it.
The company calculated this TS worth 10000$, debt was 8000$, and he believed when he saw the price of a new, bad decision.
i saw the hilti robot somewhere not long ago and was a little surprised, but not too much.
my immediate thoughts when i saw it: yeah, pricey, but somewhat in line with top end leica and trimble stuff, and anything with the name "hilti" on it is gonna cost you.?ÿ also, there's a reason people pay for hilti gear...?ÿ and though they certainly don't manufacture the instrument themselves, i'd bet they don't just go throwing their name on other people's products willy-nilly.?ÿ and so i got to: if i ever came across a good deal on one i think i'd be more inclined to buy it than not.
but those are all thoughts in a vacuum- in other words: a new instrument.?ÿ speaks nothing to your situation.?ÿ i guess if i had the ability to have it checked and/or calibrated and no red flags get raised in terms of abuse or whatever, it sounds like a hell of a deal and i'd do it in a heartbeat.?ÿ i've done plenty of good survey work with way jankier gear than a hilti robot.
the bottom line is if you know it works and does what you need, then go for it.?ÿ?ÿ
addendum: i just looked and that 42K includes the collector, which by itself is 7K.?ÿ so that's about right in line with a TS16 and and a CS20 to run it.?ÿ can't speak to trimble MSRP, as i haven't bought one in about forever.
Found this:
so would suspect rebranded Trimble instrument.?ÿ Might be able to compare specs with models of Trimble instruments to get an idea of which one was rebranded.
First priority is finding out what software and data collector options there are. If it is on-board and you are willing to run with two people, then that is taken care of, but the robotic means a data collector...
?ÿ
Second, find out if you can get it serviced. It may be mint right now, and all good, but with no support, it will be useless soon.
?ÿ
Obviously the chap or chapette that named it, didn't have a copy of the Urban Dictionary.
Looks a lot like a Spectra Focus 35
@andy-j?ÿ ?ÿYea, that is interesting, call it a POS then charge $42k for it.
It looks to be a first generation Nikon before becoming a second generation Survey Pro (TDS), before Spectra Precision, before Trimble. I guess that would be 4th generation. But I'm not complaining, I used a TPS1100 for 18 years.
@oldpacer?ÿ?ÿ sure, but it looks like they are charging "cutting edge" tech price for a really out of date instrument.?ÿ And clearly the re-sale market for a "Hilti" gun is weak sauce.?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ Just odd all around.
