I am trying to set up an old Sokkia set 5 with a tsc2 ranger data collector with survey pro to run a conventional setup. I am running a 9 pin chord to the instrument from the data collector. The data collector seems to communicate to the gun but will not set 0. I can set 0 on the instrument. I can tell the instrument?ÿ to take a shot and it will do it but will not let me store a shot. It keeps saying the instrument "returned incomplete data". Also it will say that the data collector "failed to send circle to instrument". Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I know this equipment is out of date but I am just starting out and dont want to spend 30k on equipment right now.

My current setup on the data collector is:

Brand: sokkia

Model: set

Serial port: com 1

Baud rate: 1200

Parity: none

?ÿ

Survey pro version 5.4.1

Thanks

Are you using a Topcon cable? Pentax and some other cables have the same connector but different pinouts. Topcon and Sokkia have the same pinouts.

This may be the manual. Pg 136 has the transfer parameters.

I used to run a set 3 many years ago. Might be similar. On that instrument you had to put it in the right mode by pressing "CA" on the gun before it would talk to the data collector, but as I recall it would do the opposite, it would only send the angle to the DC, and wouldn't shoot the distance.

I have a Set 4 with Set 5 display panels and it is necessary to plunge the scope to initialize and must zero the gun manually on the gun.

Set 5 is very similar. The data collector will record the angle and distance after that and prompt for a note/description.

They are very good guns and I'd use them for almost anything.

The newer Set ?30R series are much lighter and can be totally commanded by the data collector.
