Had a beautiful day in the field up Buckskin Gulch, northwest of Alma, CO.?ÿ Very surprised that there was only a wisp of wind at 11,500, which made it a t-shirt day.?ÿ Left it overnight to cook.?ÿ It's only supposed to get down to 9?ø F tonight.

?ÿ

Photo looking northeast of my old Leica GPS gear on a survey control point with Mt. Bross in the background.

?ÿ

Photo looking NNW with Mt. Democrat in the background (both are 14,000ers).

Dave,

That easterly "knob" of the second photo is where you climbed to when you visited in September 2009.?ÿ I believe you said that when you got to the top of the knob, the true summit of Mt. Democrat looked like a wall in front of you, so you turned back.?ÿ I wisely took a nap and waited for your return.?ÿ ??ÿ

If my wife wasn't such a city girl, I'd move to Alma in a heartbeat.?ÿ Love stopping at the South Park Saloon after fly fishing in the area.

I got to 12,500 and could barely breathe.?ÿ I looked at the very steep trail to the summit and thought better not try that.

I climbed Mt. Whitney but I was 6 years old then.

No mountain climbing for me.?ÿ I'm used to 800-1100 ft elevations. When I rode a bus to nearly 10,000, after two days at 7,000, I was so wiped out I could barely function.?ÿ I could have been slightly behind on water consumption to complicate matters, but I was working on that and didn't think I was seriously so.

At least you don't get caught with the trick of an enthusiastic walk outward to the turn-around point, then a sudden mystery affliction that means you have to carry them all the way back.

Yes my Dad was an avid backpacker. So he brought me along many times including the trip to the summit of Mt. Whitney. I had no idea it was crazy.

I would have had to ride that four legged beast or more prefereably had it drag me up there on a cart.

Would have to have one of those little machines that provides oxygen and a solar charging screen to keep it going.

I take the ATV everywhere if it is simply to haul the tools around.
