as a young man, one of my more memorable experiences was learning how to remove a 4 strand brand new barbed wire/steel post fence, built in a perfectly straight line, with hand tools. being young was necessary for this type of cowboy work.

Speaking of fences.?ÿ The big problem is the historic use of a single post at a property corner.?ÿ What I have done with any new fences I construct for myself is to have a corner post for a fence going (let's say) east from the corner that is set a certain distance east of the true corner.?ÿ A different corner post is then set north or south of the true corner that same certain distance online with the property line going north or south.?ÿ This allows for a reasonably sized hole to be dug and backfilled with concrete around each corner post without disturbing the corner marker at the present time or when at some distant point in the future when the "new" corner posts are antiquated and rotten and in need of replacement.?ÿ By typical situation sets the corners approximately 16 feet from the true corner with 16-foot welded-wire panels being placed from the corner posts to the true corner and secured to a single T-post several inches from the corner monument.?ÿ This also comes in handy as the welded-wire panels can become an emergency gate very quickly.?ÿ One fellow I know received severe burns over a significant portion of his body while intentionally burning off a field when the wind shifted suddenly and caught him and his four-wheeler in a corner of the field with no means of escape.?ÿ He had no fence cutters with him and inadequate time to attempt to loosen the wires from the corner post so he could outrun the fire across the neighbor's property.

@holy-cow 40+ years ago when I bought my first home and was still an LSIT I surveyed my lot computed and drafted the plat.?ÿ I just didn't get the surveyor for whom I worked to stamp it, it was just for fun/practice.?ÿ A year or so later my neighbor behind me put up a split rail fence.?ÿ Sure enough he removed one of?ÿ the corners and set a nice large redwood post where it was.?ÿ It wasn't the corner of his lot, just a point on line for him.?ÿ Having all my traverse points still in place and all the coordinates I reset the corner.?ÿ A #4 rebar driven into the top of his post with only about 6 inches protruding.?ÿ The neighbor got angry at first but when he finally realized what he had done he calmed down and even apologized.
