Hey, Dave!
It's yer old buddy, Plumb Bob! Long time no see!
It's dark in this drawer.
I do like the new orange string. And that Gammon Reel! Wow! The construction model with the twelve foot long string. Or is it fifteen feet? I don't remember it's been so long.
Now I see I've been replaced with that optical plummet thingy under the instrument.
Even when the bubble is centered and the cross hairs appear to intersect at the point, I'm still the proof provider, don't forget that.
Okay, so I know I've poked some holes in your vest and pants pockets, but that's because you've always provided me with a sharp point. But maybe that's why you've used me as a tack hammer and a digging tool, and sometimes a scribe. Ouch!
Gimmee another chance and I'll point the way for you. At least the way perpendicular to level.
You know, you could buy a scabbard to protect things from me. Oh, wait. You don't even wear a belt anymore, just those old guy suspender things.
Speakin' of old, you and I have been together longer than you and your wife: fifty-three years with her and fifty-six with me. How many other tools even last that long?
How about if you just take me out to play some games. Stab things, stick me in a tree, that kind of stuff. Then I'll go back quietly until you realize how important I am.
Almost a daily user, although I have put up the 18 ounce one for a 12 ounce one on my belt.?ÿ My belt includes (in clockwise manner) a pouch for nail & disk, fieldbook and handheld edm; a plumb bob; a pair of hand clippers; a hammer hook and a pouch for 25-foot carpenters tape.?ÿ And yes, I have watched surveyors pull up to the office and put on their plumb bob before coming inside.?ÿ
Got rid of BOB but I still carry the turquoise blue Pentel P207 mechanical pencil in my top pocket!?ÿ 🙂 Jp
Don't carry on my belt, but it is front and center in the tray of my truck.?ÿ In a leather case, that the snap pulled off of last friday, interestingly enough.?ÿ

16oz gets used every day in the field.
The gammon reel is sporting a 40cm prismatic target on the back.
None of you mentioned a Locke level though.?ÿ I still have one somewhere in the attic.?ÿ Plumb bob is in my toolbox in the truck even though I haven't used it in at least two years.
