The day we quit being a free country was the day our government said No to homesteading. Jmho
Son's HS has wilderness education courses. At the beginning of August about 10 students and a few teachers plus a parent went to hike backcountry around Glacier NP for a week or so.
Also a good excuse to get out of Louisiana in August too.
