Where do you find the FIRM Index Date? A local community was audited and they say I have the wrong index date but I am unable to find the date they claim.

On the index map?

The older maps for Barnstable County had an effective date of 1998 and some of the applicable panels were from 1992. Are you dealing with an older map?

Do you use the Map Service Center?
Map Service Center

I prefer the 'Search All Products' method. I also like FIRMettes.

That's the one I used but apparently something has yet to be updated. Thx for the reply.

Huh... I hope I have not been doing it wrong... Please post when you find the resolution. Hopefully we are right and they are wrong.

The instructions for Item B6 on the current edition of the Elevation Certificate say "FIRM Index Date. Enter the effective date or the map revised date shown on the FIRM Index"

With that wording, I don't see how you could be wrong.

Put the ball back in their court. Supply them with a firmette of the index map you used, a copy of the Elevation Certificate instructions with Item B6 highlighted, and ask them to explain why they think you're wrong and what the correct answer is.

Yes But

Yes, but this is FEMA: the overly large government agency with so many staff that you get a different answer every time you ask the same question. My record is 4 different answers to the same q

Yes But

There I go trying to apply logic and reason to problems that obviously don't respond well to either. 😀

Map Indexes contain multiple community panels. If anything is changed on any one of the community panels then the date of the Map Index also changes to the new date of the changed community panel.

If a year later another community panel changes then again the Map Index date will change.

Go to the Fema Map Service Center. Enter the address of your site. Search for all products. The 1st result will be the Firm Index map and it will show it's revision date in the bottom right corner.
