I have not dabbled with this yet, but was wondering if any of you have ever used your data collector to email files back to the office. It has come up a handful of times at our office and if the files weren't downloaded by the crew and they end up miles away, it would be pretty sweet to be able to e-mail the data back.
I have done it a few times with the Carlson Surveyor is if I can get on a WIFI network, most of the time I just have the office send the file to my email. Check my email with my phone, then use the Bluetooth to send the file from my cell phone to the data collector. Its an extra step with the cell phone, however this saves on adding the data collector to the cell phone plan when you only need to do this a few times a year.
Now some companies have their crews send the files to the office before they leave the job site to get a head start on the drafting. Which would be worth the price of the data plan,
Maybe I will try that this week, thanks!
I used to, but it didn't seem to be worth it.
So we just stopped messing with it, maybe it's so simple now that it would be ok.
I have been for the last 6 months. I love it and so do my guys. Today they had a list of things to do. The first was to get some additional topo shots needed by the engineers for a site we finished last week. They emailed it to me early and saved a 30 min trip back to the office. With the newer data collectors it's pretty simple and my guys use the hot spot on their phones for the DC wifi. We have a Carlson surveyor 2 and a nomad that files get sent to and from.
