While doing the courthouse research on a project today, I stumbled across a deed and description for a transfer... big whoop in our profession, right? '
However, I noticed that one of the people in the transfer was a Dr. William Pepper. I've looked up the Wikipedia page for Dr. Pepper and it shows a possibility that the soft drink "Dr. Pepper" may have originated here in Christiansburg. I just thought it was odd that the profession of the man was called out, we don't usually see that here.
So, here is a scanned copy of a deed with Dr. Pepper, who may or may not have created the world known carbonated beverage, as one of the entities (I forget which one, the parcel wasn't near what I was doing) in this transfer. The W.J. Hall that I have underlined was the local "County Surveyor" from about 1890 into the 1920's or 1930's,
Most Texans will assert that the soft drink was unquestionably invented in Waco. The possible connect with VA is the source of the name. Cool find.
That is really cool. I hope there is a connection.
That's far more impressive than the job on my 'to do' list for Wayne Newton's neighbor. I know this Wayne Newton and he has some great stories to tell about his couple trips to Las Vegas. When he called for a limo, it got there in no time, but the driver was terribly disappointed to find this nobody getting in.

HC,
I know "Donald Trump" (just Don). He was on Letterman one time and read one of the "Top Ten Things Donald Trump Says" with 9 other guys named Donald Trump.
I also know two Kevin Smith's, but neither one is the famous movie maker/comic book fan.
I know Steve Martin, Rod Stewart, John Stewart, Donnie Osmond...Burt Reynolds pasted away but Ryan Renolds lives up the street.
Jenny Gump was my across the street neighbor.
There used to be an old pharmacy in Rural Retreat, VA. The sign was still legible and read "home of the original Dr. Pepper". The town manager told me Dr. Pepper mixed the drink in this building.
Looks like it was named after Dr. Charles Pepper.
