While rooting through my desk in a desperate attempt to locate a coupon for a free Whopper I found this stuff. Since I am photography impaired the pic below shows an SMI survey module with overlay, case, user's manual, cable for pc, and a HP48 users guide. It's all brand new.
It's all free for the taking, postage paid. Well ALMOST free. Just make a contribution of any amount to our dear forum "Surveyor Connect", and I'll send it to you. I will take you at your word that you have donated.
Email in profile works. First donor wins!
B-)
Sent you an E-mail.
That's very cool of you. Did you find your free whopper?
I think that's worth a Whopper coupon at least!
OK gh, it's yours. Send me your snail mail address and I'll mail it to you tomorrow.
And thank you for donating. B-)
It's over y'all
"gs" was first to reply and donate so "gs" get's the goods. 🙂
Thanks to all who replied! B-)
No I didn't find the Whopper coupon, I'll look again tomorrow in the next drawer. God only knows what I'll find!!

[sarcasm]You do know in advance that you will find the coupon one day after it expires?[/sarcasm]:-@
Broke my 48 in the field about 6years ago. now I use an app on my phone for all my 48 thinking.
I used to run SMI on the 48. I now have it running on a Recon. SMI still blows the doors off anything for normal surveying field comps.
I read about a "bug" (online) that is in the HP-48gx some time ago. It was hard to turn on. The trick I learned was to hold/pinch the upper-right corner while pushing the on-button. Some time later, I went into one of our engineer's offices, and saw his calculator on a shelf which he said didn't work anymore. I did the little "trick" and it turned right on.
Anyway, it might be worth fixing if maybe that particular bug isn't the problem. Those are nice machines.
I like my hp48SX (but I don't know how well you can do data-collection on it with less memory than the gx). It has never stopped working though.
Dang
I wish I'd have come across that trick last year. I tried every which way I could find online, but nothing seemed to work. The Powers That Be took her away.
R.I.P., HP48. :'(
".. attempt to locate a coupon for a free Whopper.."
When you're saying free, do you mean free, or is it one of those "if you buy one, you get another free?
I've never seen the plain old free ones.
gh, it's on the way
Package sent to you this morning, scheduled delivery 10/12/13. Check your email for the tracking number. Thanks again! B-)
Thanks!
No, somehow my Google Fu didn't come across that site. Bookmarked!
Dang
Fix that Calc sounds like the way to always go. It has been brought up on beerleg as well as the old rpls.com forever. It sounds like the 48 gets contact problems with age, from what I read do to dust or something getting in there. It happens between the screen and the first row of buttons. kind of putting pressure on the corners like you trying to bow it out (convex up) helps the contact be made. And I read that a good cleaning can help solve the problem. I found this youtube on a temporary repair while you're waiting on sending it in: utube video
These days, it's sure a good idea to do an internet search before throwing away good equipment or anything.
I like RealCalc. I got the Pro version - a few bucks.
It does a great job on DMS -> decimals and back again.
It is a great calculator.
