I have spent the last three days wandering around Intergeo 2019 in Stuttgart. Absolutely fascinating. Unbelievable amount of new stuff out there.?ÿ
I have used a Trimble Dini12 for nearly 20 years, but since they have not updated it in many years I thought I would check out Leica as I had heard that they have a digital level with autofocus (LS15) and can interface to a smartphone. They did not have one at the show, neither did Trimble. I don't believe Topcon did either. I did see one at South Instruments (Chinese). There were a lot of other manufacturers of optical instruments and I didn't notice any other digital levels.?ÿ
Is no one buying these very useful instruments? We use ours a lot, not only on deformation surveys but also to set control for mobile lidar where they want a FINAL accuracy delivered of ?ñ0.05 feet.?ÿ
Of course it would be very difficult to change to Leica because I have three 3m invar rods, a few different standard rods (1m, 3m, 4m), and a 0.5 m invar strip, all of which only work with Trimble.?ÿ
Here is a picture of 1/2 of one of the three exhibit halls.
i thought i saw one at the Leica booth, not the main booth but there was a solo booth for monitoring solutions.
I use a sokkia SDL30. Sufficient enough and very practical but too bad you always need a 2 person crew.
I too love the DiNis, but do not understand why they haven't at least been given an updated screen and interface/menu. Auto-focusing would be great too, but the most common complaint I heard from users was the dated interface.
Not sure about the smartphone app, but I can see the appeal of logging to another device to prevent accidental loss of data. I still book everything, as on rare occasions I have gotten a corrupt file during transfer.
I would want the app to automatically add measurements and calcs to a level notes display, so I could see what I would be writing in the book if I were running a conventional level. Link to points already in the project so it can automatically calculate deltas and show them in realtime.
But if I am going to be carrying something (besides the level) around it might as well be the data collector so that I can simply work in the active job, check and adjust the level runs, then send the adjusted elevations directly to their respective points, keeping the level data as part of the job file to be exported later.
In addition to some functionality Leica managed to add a couple pounds to their levels.?ÿ
I asked at the main booth, they said hey didn't have one there but I could talk to the total station people or just look online.
I have used a Leica LS10 in the past few weeks. Incredibly accurate,?ÿ 0.3mm closures on 1km level loops with standard barcode staff. Will be trying it with an invar staff soon.
I am looking at the Geomax ZDL 700 as well.
Remember, accuracy is always only as good as the change points - invar stave or no invar stave.

In case anyone doesn't know what they are doing already.
Read some of the questions and answers on this forum, the more you read the more you will realize plenty of posters on here dont know what they are doing.
