I want/need the following:
replaceable battery... it must be able to keep the camera going when out and about
removable memory... it must be able to keep on shooting when the memory fills up
view finder... using the LCD display does not cut it in many environments

Canon Powershot A1200 under $100 at Amazon.com

This camera is one of the very few that still has the above features, and it is the Only One that I found that is pocket size and at a reasonable price.

That's the number one feature for me. I use my cell phone sometimes because it's so easy, but it doesn't have a view finder so I'm usually just guessing where it's pointing.
