Hi guys!

Please allow me to share the background of this post.

Anybody is kind enough to share links to good references on derivation of the 7 Bursa Wolfe Transformation Parameters? I do have some but my limited knowledge tells me to read more.

Thank you.

Regards.

I unfortunately don't see any derivation equations in the link. How to use the 7 parameters is not actually a problem on my end. I am developing a transformation utility for my own consumption aimed to address geodetic to geodetic map transformation.

Thank you.

Regards.

It seems to me that you are writing new software and want our help, which is fine but if thats what you are doing please just tell us that.

GLOBAL COGO

I would suggest you examine the materials Professor Earl Burkholder has compiled and written, about the subject of geodetic calculation. He is a geospatial science GURU.

Are you an alumn of UP? Have a very good friend who is a graduate from their Geodetic Engineering Program.

Here is the link Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About 3D Geopatial Coordinate Systems From The Geodetic GURU.

What? Your Kidding Right?

Well Adam, even though your comment seems quite rude, I will answer. I have seen post after post from this fellow asking about different software and which collector people prefer. How this collectotr and that works. He seems interested in technical details necesary for programming. I am sure I could be wrong but it seems like he is writing some new software and if thats the case then fine, I am sure people would be glad to help. Not too many folks on here need the technical sheets for 7 parameter transformations but like I said I could be wrong, so I simply asked.

Rude - Schmood.

What difference does it make why he needs the information? Who cares if he is programming code. His reasons really don't need to be expressed.

He asked a question. Someone is probably willing to answer it without knowing his reason for the question. Bada Bing, Bada Bang, Buttafuoco.

What? Your Kidding Right?

Hi rambleon!

I hope I am not a victim of language gap. 🙂

With regards to my previous posts on data collection systems, please allow me to kindly inform this group that I am indeed a user of SDR33, Fieldgenius, and SurvCE.

I successfully employed Fieldgenius in my Cement Plant (Holcim) wide structural surveying project. I do have some pictures in my Facebook account. I tried several times uploading pictures in this group but all failed. I can honestly tell that I am good at Fieldgenius.

I used SurvCE in some of my projects just to get a good feeling of the difference between the two systems. Due to this experience, I can tell to what type of job SurvCE or Fieldgenius is best suited for based on my exposure and preference.

I used SDR33 as a matter of increasing the power of my old Leica TC307. The main reason of learning the system is to be able to provide nonsense training to my survey crew who is going to use the system. In fact, I used SDR33 in one of my land surveying projects just to get a good feeling on how it works.

As a user of these products, I can tell the power, elegance, dependability, and sustainability they provide.

With regards to this post, please allow me to share in this group that practitioners in the Philippines are in deep trouble in complying with the Executive Order issued by our former president. The EO provides guidelines to be strictly complied with. The problem is we don't have any existing system used to transform our old geodetic system to WGS84 variant and Clarke1866 based Philippine Reference System of 1992 (PRS92). Due to this frustration, I developed my own utility used to transform any local coordinate system in our place to grid system based on the PRS92 guidelines. In my opinion, the system is working well and I am happy with it.

To my surprise, I was invited to be part of the discussion group (practitioners, people from academe, government representation, and Philippine mapping authority representative) to find solution to this problem. My part is to present my system.

PRS92 compliance is a mathematical endeavor as it is a TM map projection process. It is Geodesy in other words. Though I was able to partially deal with it as I was able to develop my own utility, I do still have the feeling of insecurity as I am not a Geodesy PhD. This is exactly the reason why I posted this discussion to get some reactions, suggestions, or links for me to read on before attending the scheduled event on Jan. 6, 2012.

Thank you guys!

Regards.

Correction: nonsense should be "no nonsense".

What? Your Kidding Right?

Thanks for your explanation amdomag, sounds like they made a good choice. As an aside, if you use Trimble's TBC or TGO, you can define custom projections in the software and it will perform the transformations for you. I am sure other softwares can do this as well. This could be a good check on your software. I might suggest that your presentation include a suggestion to moving to a more modern time-based reference frame such as ITRF, considering that the Phillipines is subject to substantial crustal movement.

What? Your Kidding Right?

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I am doing it with my Leica. I created a custom datum based on the suggested 7 parameters given by our government.

Due to roughly 35,000 independent local systems adopted in the Philippines, practitioners are going crazy as the government is not even there to provide support. Up to this point, practitioners and the government are just fooling each other as to compliance of the Executive Order by our president that pertains to map projection. As it is a mathematical undertaking, the majority of practitioners can't unfortunately cope up.

The determination of transformation parameters for each survey project to be undertaken in Philippine soil is one of the topics to be taken up in the round table discussion in Jan. 6. This is the reason why I am polishing a bit my gun that pertains to such topic.

Your suggestion on considering ITRF as it is a time-based reference frame is worth looking into. Our PRS92 system is strictly local. I'll bring it out during the round table discussion. Thank you for the idea.

Thank you for your time.

Regards.
