aka the record of shame....
1905 glo sets a stone for the west side of S21--
1939- HWY comes thru buys r/w and gravel pit ( bargain and sale deed).
1949- land owner conveys of 10 ac. on n'ly side of r/w 20 rods by 80 rods. no deed exhibit.
1951- hwy expands pit east'ly- see above plan ( bargain and sale deed)
1984- private sureyor "retraces' 10 ac tract. Cos 7552-
http://flathead.mt.gov/plat_room/certificates_of_survey.php
here's a snip-
Doesn't file a corner record on either corner-but files his survey.
1990- private surveyor consulting for hwy finds
He also makes 2 attempts to set the Nw corner of the section.... (2 CCRS)
files a COS showing his works. COS 10724
HWY developes R/w plans for project in section 20 and wester'ly using consultant retracement.
1991- tribe acquires all tracts in this and surrounding sections except the RW, the pit(s) and the 10 ac tract North.
2012 tribe hires surveyor the retrace their parcel n of R/W cos 19404.
2013/2014 HWY wants to know where the boundaries of the pit(s) are located... so far I've located the AC's set in 1990 and the sw corner of the 1940 pit site, plus misc. I'll be going back out with some additional calcs after the thaw, so i can dig up some stone mounds and look for corners. Indications right now are that the W 1/4 as set is 9 feet too far south.... :-/
I'd be thrilled if most of the ones I find are within nine feet.
To honor or not to honor, tis the question.
I mean if everything fit perfectly, how much fun would that be?

Somebody found what they thought was the original stone?
> Somebody found what they thought was the original stone?
Evidently.
It was lying loose under the fence, so he "re-set" it at the record distance (2640') from the apparent NW section corner.
[sarcasm]My goodness, what could go wrong.........[/sarcasm]
Humm.........loose stone 9' south of a F.I. which occupies the record distance from the section corner, what should be done with that? Sometimes its so easy and we make it so difficult.
if only...
I know specifically where a surveyor did not accept a loose stone and monumented a fence corner not far away. BLM comes along and accepts the loose stone...:excruciating:
Pablo B-)
he didn't do either....:-|
How you do know it was loose?
He liked the stone I bet, but knew that if he accepted it, the BLM would come along and set something at the fence corner.....o.O
something else to keep in mind is that the hwy record a fnd distance of 2628+/- ....
Thanks, I couldn't read that on the first post. I just saw the one above that said "found in place". Looks like the first guy replanted the "loose" stone which later became "found in place". I agree, doesn't look right.
