Corner Record filing question

No, it shouldn't be skipped. The county surveyor files it after their review and approval, the county recorder doesn't record it, at least in California.

It looks like per Code 8771 and 8773 that it is only required to be filed with the County Surveyor if it is a government corner. I've only filed with the County Surveyor and not a city, so I'm interested in other answers.

Not so.?ÿ ??8771(b) speaks about monuments "that control the location of subdivisions, tracts, boundaries, roads, streets, or highways, or provide horizontal or vertical survey control," and ??8771(c) states that a Corner Record or Record of Survey "shall be filed with the county surveyor."

shall be filed with the county surveyor.

(c) A permanent monument shall be reset in the surface of the new construction or a

of survey shall be filed with the county surveyor prior to the recording of a certificate of

"without devious surveys" I learned something new. I never knew devious could be used in this way. We have to go to the inlaws for Christmas but I'm going to take a devious route so I don't have to be there as long.

Obviously you're talking about somewhere in the LA Basin since those are the problem cities.?ÿ Yes, the licensed land surveyor in responsible charge of the surveying work is required to satisfy 8771(b) for pre-construction situations and 8771(c) for post construction situations regardless of what the City tells you (or anyone else for that matter).

My advice to everyone who has contacted me on this is to file the CR with the County as required and give a copy of that filed CR to the City.?ÿ If the City has a problem, have them contact the Board.?ÿ City doesn't have authority to dictate otherwise.

AND when you are told by the City that they are "a Charter City" that doesn't matter either.?ÿ There are no chartered land surveyors in CA and the City doesn't have the authority to practice land surveying.
