Need some backup here. Structure is built from BM. After construction, discover they used wrong elevation on BM. Elevation is actually 1.00 ft higher than what was used, ie used 100, it's actually 101. Is structure 1.00' too high, or 1.00' too low? I say it's too high.

You win, if you mean the FF is at a one foot higher elevation than the plan. It's still at the same relationship relative to everything else in the design though, if it was all built from that BM.

Yep you win. As an example lets say the plans call for the finish floor to be at 100' and you use a BM that incorrectly noted at 100'. This means the house and BM are at the same elevation. Now you discover the BM is at 101', this makes the elevation of the structure 101'.

Was trying to think of a simple way to explain it. That's a good one.

Do I get 1/2 of what you win on the bet?

I still like to draw pictures when dealing with datum conversions. Same with bearing rotations and magnetic declination. (I'm easily confused.)

Congratulations. You get to not drive half the curb hubs tomorrow.

You have a file with finished grades, you are staking with your rover and want the cut/fill to display the sub grade number. Do you add or subtract to the 6ft HI to make that happen?

Neither. I put in a negative vertical offset the depth of rock and pavement.

Round 2... double or nothing:
If you want to convert NAVD88 elevations to MLLW, would you add or subtract?
(NAVD88 = 1.50' MLLW)

Round 3... for all the marbles:
If you had State Plane Coordinates and wanted to rotate them to true bearings, which way would you rotate? (astronomic north is 1 degree clockwise from grid north).

Before I get my hand slapped by geodesist guy, lets assume that these are smaller projects and a single conversion would suffice.
