I perk all up, we go see it together.
It's a builders level, in a rickity wood box, (been boxed wrong), but the box came with the inst.
Inevitably, it's a David White, Craftsman, or Bostrom Brady.
It's always such a letdown.

I'm hoping for a Lietz or K & E, or an old compass.

But it seems I always have to go and see.

Yeah, I've fallen for that before, piece of garbage, non-historic, barely "old" level. But they still ask things like, "how do I make that work to find my property corners?"

My Sister told me this past weekend that a friend of ours had bought a surveying instrument at a pawn shop. "This one has the four screws, all the cheap ones only have three screws". I was thinking, what the hell!

She was repeating what the friend said, I just stayed out of it.

Well, it's an actual survey instrument!
A little overpriced, but it's real!

A lot over priced.

I acquired two very old K & E 30" optical transits without optical plummets from a former employer years ago. I recently gave one to a good surveyor friend of mine and am holding on to the other to display in our new office when we move to a new larger office space. I love the old school stuff!

I've ran that aluminum model and the brass one before that model.
Heavy or not, I'd rather have to run the brass model.

You better go buy that just to acquire the rare table top mount!

Must be one of those "rare" options designed for "table top surveys."

The ones I remember have a place to mount feet made from rubber, wood or shaped metal.
Simple to fabricate to suit setup.
